Nigel Wright (born 8 November 1973 (1973-11-08) (age 38)) is an English former professional rugby league footballer of the 1990s and 2000s, and coach of the 2010s, who at representative level has played for England, and at club level for Wakefield Trinity, Wigan, and Huddersfield Giants, playing at Stand-off/Five-eighth, or Loose forward/Lock, i.e. number 6, or 13, and at club level has coached for Barrow Raiders.

International honours

Nigel Wright won a cap for England while at Wakefield Trinity in 1995 against France.[1]

Only eight players have ever scored drop goals for England, they are; John Keith Bridges (1), George Fairbairn (1), Bobbie Goulding (1), Sean Long (1), Martin Offiah (1), Harry Pinner (2), Alan Redfearn (1), and Nigel Wright (1).[2]

County Cup Final Appearances

Nigel Wright played Stand-off/Five-eighth, i.e. number 6 and scored a goal and a drop goal in Wakefield Trinity's 29-16 victory over Sheffield Eagles in the 1992 Yorkshire Cup final at Elland Road, Leeds on the 18th October 1992.[3]

Transfer fee

In 1993, Wigan paid Wakefield Trinity a fee of £140,000 for Nigel Wright (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £253,000 in 2009),[4] however a series of injuries limited his impact at Wigan.[5]
